Please read Resolving disputes carefully. Unless you opt out within 30 days, you and Borderly agree to settle disputes by binding individual arbitration instead of in court, and you give up the right to a jury trial and to take part in a class action. Small-claims court stays open to you.
What Borderly is
Borderly provides remote guidance to international students moving to the United States: a dedicated advisor available by in-app message, phone and video call, a settling-in checklist, and related tools. Help is given remotely. Nobody from Borderly accompanies you in person.
Borderly gives practical and logistical guidance only. We are not attorneys, licensed immigration advisers, tax preparers or financial advisers, and nothing we say is legal, immigration, tax or investment advice. For your visa status, speak to your university’s Designated School Official.
Who can use it
You must be at least 16. If you’re 16 or 17, you name a parent or guardian when you sign up; we email them, and they must agree to these terms for you — and to being responsible for any plan you buy — before you can choose one. In the iPhone and Android apps, your age group comes from the app store where the law provides it. You agree to these terms by ticking the box when you create your account.
Plans and payment
Prices are in US dollars and include everything Borderly charges — there are no other fees. Your bank may add its own fee for paying in dollars. Both plans include the same access. Payments are processed by a secure payment processor; we never see or store your full card number.
Lifetime: $149, one payment, for access for as long as Borderly runs. Nothing further is charged.
Monthly — automatic renewal, 6-month minimum: $29 is charged when you buy, for a month of access. The plan then renews automatically every month at $29, charged to the card you provided, until you cancel. You agree to this separately, with a checkbox, before paying. The first 6 monthly payments are a commitment ($174 in all, less any promo code): you can cancel at any time, but if you cancel before your 6th payment, the plan continues and ends after it, and the payments up to it are still charged. After your 6th payment, cancelling stops the plan at the end of the month you’ve paid for. We email you at least 7 days before the plan first carries on past the minimum, and at least once a year after that. To cancel, use “Cancel my plan” on your Billing page, on the website or in the app — one step. You keep access until the end of the last month you’ve paid for, and you can undo a cancellation until then. If we ever change the monthly price, we’ll email you at least 7 days (and no more than 30 days) before the payment it applies to, and you can cancel before it.
Plans no longer sold. If you bought the 6-month plan ($174 every 6 months, paid upfront), it keeps its terms: it renews every 6 months until you cancel, we email you at least 7 days before each renewal, and cancelling (“Cancel renewal” on your Billing page) stops it at the end of the period you’ve paid for.
If a payment fails, access is paused until it succeeds. If it can’t be collected, your plan ends. Plans bought earlier on monthly payments keep the terms they were bought on.
Refunds
Lifetime — 7-day money-back guarantee. Within 7 days of paying you may request a full refund, using the button on your billing page. Your plan and access end immediately. The guarantee applies once per person and once per card: not to a plan bought after an earlier one was refunded, not with a card already refunded on another account, and not to a complimentary plan. After 7 days it is non-refundable.
Monthly — no refunds. Payments on the monthly plan, including those in its 6-month minimum, are non-refundable. Instead you can cancel at any time, as described above, and keep access until the end of the last month you’ve paid for. The same applies to the 6-month plan.
Plans bought before 8 October 2026 keep the 14-day guarantee they were sold with; a plan bought earlier on monthly payments is a commitment to all its payments after that window. The refund policy has the details. This does not affect any rights you have under applicable consumer law.
Third-party costs
Rent, deposits, phone plans, government fees and any other costs are paid by you directly to the provider. Borderly takes no commission from landlords, banks, carriers or anyone else. We cannot guarantee any outcome that depends on a third party, such as a landlord accepting your application or the SSA issuing a number.
Legal help and housing
Legal help puts you in touch with an independent immigration lawyer; the lawyer, not Borderly, advises you, on the terms you agree to in Legal help — free by phone or for minor issues, a fee agreed with you first for major matters.
Your advisor finds and checks places to live for you, but landlords are independent: your lease is between you and the landlord, and you pay them directly. Borderly isn’t a party to your lease, isn’t a real-estate broker and takes no commission. Checks reduce the risk of a scam or a bad lease; they can’t remove it entirely.
Your account
You can ask for your account and data to be deleted from your Account page at any time (see the privacy policy). Deleting your account ends your access and turns off a 6-month plan’s renewal, but doesn’t cancel payments still due on an earlier monthly plan, and isn’t a refund.
Keep your password private. Never share passwords, one-time codes or full card numbers in messages — no one at Borderly will ask for them. We may suspend accounts used abusively or to harass staff.
Resolving disputes: arbitration, not court
- Talk to us first. If something goes wrong, email borderlydev@gmail.com with your name, the email on your account, what happened and what you’d like us to do. We’ll try to put it right. Neither of us starts an arbitration or a court case until 30 days after that email.
- Binding individual arbitration. If we can’t settle it, any dispute between you and Borderly about these terms, our service, your plan or payments, or anything else to do with Borderly, is decided by a neutral arbitrator in binding arbitration — not by a judge or jury. It’s run by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules (adr.org). The Federal Arbitration Act governs this section. The arbitrator can award you the same individual relief a court could.
- Cost and place. You pay no more toward the AAA’s filing fee than its Consumer Rules allow; we pay the rest of the AAA’s fees and the arbitrator’s. Hearings are by video or phone, or in the county where you live if you prefer. For claims up to $25,000 you can ask for it to be decided on written submissions alone.
- No class actions, no jury. You and Borderly each bring claims only individually, not as a plaintiff or class member in a class, collective or representative action, and give up a jury trial. If this waiver is found unenforceable for a claim, that claim goes to court instead — never to a class arbitration.
- What stays in court. Either of us can take an individual claim to small-claims court instead, if it qualifies there. Claims of sexual harassment or sexual assault can go to court if you choose (as federal law provides). A request for an injunction for the benefit of the public, where the law of your state doesn’t allow giving that up, is decided in court after the individual claims are arbitrated.
- Opting out. You can opt out of this section within 30 days of first agreeing to these terms, by emailing borderlydev@gmail.com with your name, the email on your account and that you’re opting out of arbitration. Disputes then go to court, and the rest of these terms still apply. Opting out doesn’t change anything else about your plan.
- Under 18. If you’re 16 or 17, your parent or guardian agrees to this section for you, along with the rest of the terms.
- If it changes. A future change to this section won’t apply to a dispute you’d already told us about, and you can reject it by emailing us within 30 days of the change — this version then keeps applying to you.
Changes, and who we are
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll email you before the change takes effect.
